Styles come and go. New trends emerge. Different hues adorn our walls. As an interior designer, I pull inspiration from what I see around me, including trends, to create a design that is both timely and timeless. As we get settled into 2019, there are a few interior design color trends you can expect. Would you incorporate any of these color trends into your home design?

DARK GREEN

Dark green seems to be making a triumphant return to our homes in a way that we haven’t seen since the art deco era of the 1920’s (don’t worry, it’s not the 1970’s green we are all familiar with). What I love about this color is that it can be both sophisticated and playful. Don’t be surprised if you see an Alexis Manfer project with a deep green feature wall or fun and funky green accent furniture.

PEWTER

Grey walls aren’t going anywhere, but they may need to make a little room for pewter. As a paint color, pewter is that perfect blend of grey and beige (aka greige) that adds visual interest while still feeling like somewhat of a blank canvas for your design. While we are on the subject of this grey variation, keep an eye out deeper, more mooody greys this year.

BRIGHT

Yes, this isn’t a specific color as much as it is a family of colors. While homeowners will always love their neutrals, this may be the year for adding bright pops of color in the form of pillows, accent furniture, rugs and art. We love how unique you can make a space feel when you take the leap into mixing bright colors and patterns into your home design.

TERRACOTTA

We couldn’t leave the earth-toned terracotta off the list. Why? Sherwin-Williams selected Cavern Clay as it’s 2019 color of the year and that’s saying something. According to the paint giant, Cavern Clay is a “nod to midcentury modern style, but with the soul of the American Southwest, which together creates a desert modern aesthetic.”
